Chita recalls that around the time of the John F. Kennedy assassination, she was appearing as Linda Low in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song at Melody Top in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Maureen Tionco played Mei Li. Steve Harmon played Sammy Fong. Her musical numbers included the Rodgers and Hammerstein standard, "I Enjoy Being a Girl." As Chita recalls, however, she was injured during rehearsal and played much of the show "from a wheel chair"!
