After completing a cross-country tour of Call Me Madam with Elaine Stritch, Chita returned to New York to replace Onna White as a principal dancer in Guys and Dolls. Following Guys and Dolls, Chita joined the cast of the original Broadway company of Can-Can, in which her friend, Gwen Verdon, first achieved stardom.
White, Onna – dancer/choreographer
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada), Onna White danced in the Broadway and London casts of Finian's Rainbow (1947) and Guys and Dolls (1950), and choreographed the London production of Fanny (1956) before stunning Broadway with her glorious dances for The Music Man (1957). She went on to choreograph more than a dozen more stage musicals, including Take Me Along (1959), the Broadway version of Half a Sixpence (1965), Mame (1966), 1776 (1969), Gigi (1973) and Goodtime Charley (1975). White adapted her stage dances for the screen versions of The Music Man (1962), 1776 (1972) and Mame (1974).
